Natural facial masks are quick to make and better for the skin. Here's how to make one at home.

These days so many skin care products are loaded with synthetic chemicals. Unfortunately, the skin is not an impermeable barrier. It can absorb many of the ingredients in skin care products and no one knows for sure whether the majority of them are safe – despite the assurances of the FDA. The safest alternative is to make natural skin care products at home. Not only is it a healthier option, it’s also less expensive – especially considering the rising cost of organic skin care products.

Natural Facial Masks are Easy to Make

One type of skin care product that’s simple to make are natural facial masks using fresh, organic fruits. Homemade fruit facial masks feel good against the skin and help to remove dead skin cells on the surface of the skin that make it look dull. Fruits are an excellent source of antioxidants - and some studies show that applying fruit extracts from fruits such as the pomegranate helps to protect against skin cancer and the aging effects of ultraviolet light.

How to Make Homemade Fruit Facial Masks – Supplies Needed

  • A blender or food processor to puree the fruit
  • Fruits – pomegranates, grapes, and blueberries are good choices because of their high antioxidant content
  • Egg whites
  • Honey
  • Large glass bowl
  • Glass storage jars with tops

Making Natural Facial Masks Using Fruit

Wash the fruits thoroughly and peel fruits that have a tough outer skin. Place the fruit into the jug of a blender or food processor and puree them until smooth. Pour the freshly pureed fruit into a glass bowl. Combine a tablespoon of honey with one egg white and stir them thoroughly. Add the honey-egg mixture to the glass bowl containing the fruit and stir the mixture together to create a thick paste. Add more honey and egg white as needed to thicken. People with dry skin may benefit from adding a few drops of olive oil for extra moisturizing benefits. Spoon the thick paste into glass storage jars and store in the refrigerator until ready to use.

Applying Homemade Fruit Facial Masks

Natural facial masks are best applied to skin that’s freshly washed. Before applying, make sure it’s thick enough to stick to the face. If not, add a little extra honey. Spread the mask on using bare fingertips and let it stay on the skin for at least twenty minutes. After twenty minutes, use a soft washcloth to remove the mask using a gentle scrubbing motion. This will give the skin a soft glow. Follow up by applying a light moisturizer.

The Advantage of Making Natural Facial Masks

Homemade fruit facial masks can be made using almost any type of fruit or combination of fruits. Have fun experimenting!
